Hello and welcome
to the Captains page here at Nazeing online!
This is my first report
as Captain for 2008!
My drive in took place last Sunday, 25th
November and I would like to take this opportunity
to thank all the members who took part in
my drive in competition. 80 members turned
up to play on what was a cold, but thankfully
dry, winter’s morning at 8:30 am for the
shotgun start.
The team event was won by Duncan
Kenworthy, Kevin & Robert Johnston and
Josh Lodge and the individual event
was won by Steve Usher.
My congratulations to you all!
The success of the day was largely down
to my very good friend and Vice Captain
Kevin Kennedy,
our club Pro Robert
Green and also to Kim,
James and all the Nazeing
Golf Club staff. A special mention
is due also to Ian Shadbolt.
Ian, himself a former Captain of Nazeing,
is a great help to me, and indeed a great
friend. My grateful thanks to you all!
As is traditional after the food, drink
and presentation, my drive in took place
from the front of the club house.
I managed to drive a reasonably good (if
I say so myself...!) shot over the 9th green,
against the wind, down the fairway and the
ball ended up in one of the fairway bunkers.
The final resting place for the ball was
forecast with great precision by
Sarah Goddard, who took away some
golfing travel accessories. Well done Sarah!
My thanks as ever to Paul
Clark the outgoing Captain, who now
becomes Chairman, and also to Tony
Jones the outgoing Chairman, both
great friends who have, and will continue
to give, their continued support to both
this club and myself throughout my Captaincy.
The course is looking great at the moment
and playing beautifully thanks to James
and his team. It has seen great improvements
this year and I am assured that the members
can expect standards to be improved f urther.
For my Captains charity
this year, I have decided to target a local
family (or families), who are suffering
financial hardship due to illness. I therefore
ask the good people of Nazeing Golf club
to nominate any family they think would
benefit from some financial assistance from
this Charity. The CCC
(Captains Charity Committee) will look at
each nomination on its merit and make the
decision on which family or indeed families
will benefit.
As a result of the drive in Spot
the Ball we have already raised £300.
Added to this we have an additional £50
from the Bear and another £50 from Joe McCluskey
(from lost Captain Bets!), thus making our
grand total so far some £400! We will shortly
name the CCC members, and will look for
members support as well as support from
the local businesses.
The next competition is the Turkey
Trot which will take place on Sunday
December 9th. As this is a popular
day I would suggest you get your name down
quickly in order to avoid disappointment.
I hope to see a greater attendance for the
competitions throughout the coming year...
My vice Captain, Kevin, is a great asset
to this Club. He has a great amount of experience
in organising golf days, in being involved
in several Society’s including the very
popular Eskimo Golf Society where he was
Captain, Secretary, Chairman and President
over the years. Kevin has helped the Society
to raise enormous amounts of money for the
underprivileged children in Brazil.
I am pleased, proud and honoured to be Captain
of Nazeing Golf Club. It is an honour to
be Captain to such a great lot of members.
I doubt if another club can produce the
calibre of members we have here!
I do hope we
can attract more new members this year.
Believe me, if you join us you will be made
very welcome.
I am of course always available to talk
to. Feel free to come and discuss any matters
or issues you may have. Positive comments
are very welcome too. Let us know if we
are getting it right! All comments both
good and bad will be raised by me on your
behalf at the monthly committee meetings.
Remember this is your
club and we can all contribute to making
a difference for
the best... so let’s hear from you!
Do remember our club house has a wonderful
restaurant. The food is excellent and the
atmosphere superb.
I look forward to a great year and
trust you will enjoy your golf during this
year.
Yours sincerely,
Jim Sullivan
Your Captain
